In the winter crop of 2021, the northern provinces will focus on developing crops of high economic value, focusing on production linkages and product offtake contracts.
On September 8, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held an online conference to evaluate the production results of the 2020 winter crop and implement the 2021 winter crop plan in the northern provinces.
According to the Department of Crop Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), the winter crop of 2020, the area reached 375,000 hectares, down 13.3 thousand hectares compared to the winter crop of 2019 (due to the impact of storm No. 7 on October 14-16). In which, the group of crops with reduced area is mainly warm crops such as: maize (decreased by more than 6,000 ha), soybean (down by more than 1,000 ha), sweet potato (down by more than 3,000 ha). Particularly, potatoes are a cold plant, with difficulties in seed sources, high input costs, so the area is reduced by more than 2,000 hectares. Crops with increased area are mainly vegetables and legumes of all kinds (increasing by more than 8,000 ha).
The value of winter crops in 2020 reached more than 32,600 billion VND, production value reached more than 84 million VND/ha (an increase of 3.1 million VND/ha compared to winter 2019).
The production value of the winter crop increased due to the shift from the group of precarious production crops, under seasonal pressure, with low economic value such as soybeans, peanuts, sweet potatoes, etc., to crops of high economic value. higher economic value such as: group of medicinal plants, group of high-quality root vegetables, fruits, vegetables, food corn, biomass corn, flowers, high-value ornamental plants…
Production activities in greenhouses and net houses associated with preliminary processing and processing to ensure food safety and hygiene with stable output and scattered crops have contributed to increasing economic efficiency per unit area. In particular, vegetable products of all kinds maintained high selling prices from the beginning of the season to the end of the season.
Regarding the production plan for the winter crop 2021, according to the Department of Crop Production, the crop industry will be restructured towards commodity production, quality and efficiency, improving the value chain and sustainable development.
Determining the winter crop is an important production crop for the growth of the whole industry for the next year. The goal is to stabilize an area of about 400,000 hectares and an output of 4.6 million tons. In which, the Red River Delta region is planned to be 161,000 ha, the Northern Midlands and Mountainous region is 140,000 ha, and the North Central region is 105,000 ha. Focus on developing a number of crops of high economic value, with contracts to sell products to farmers.
The total production value of winter crop 2021 is expected to reach about 34,000-35,000 billion VND, the average production value is about 85 million VND/ha.
In terms of structure, the group of warm crops (maize, sweet potatoes, soybeans, wet vegetables) account for about 55% of the total area of winter crops. The group of cold-loving plants (potatoes, cold-loving vegetables) is about 45% of the total area of winter crops.
Regarding production solutions for the winter crop 2021, according to the Department of Crop Production, each province’s crop season is based on the harvested area of summer-autumn rice and the 2021 crop to proactively arrange the season, area, and crop structure accordingly. in order to ensure the maximum production area for winter crop, but to ensure safety and economic efficiency.
Regarding technical solutions, for warm crops, the planting season ends before October 10, cold-loving plants are planted after October 10, especially for potato plants, focus on planting from October 25 to 15. /11. Planting crops for vegetable groups to ensure supply, limit excess low prices or lack of vegetables push prices up…
